On why she became an actress: "I just always did it, I was always looking for a way to perform. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia, I was a ballet dancer, and when I went to college (Denison University in Ohio) I started studying theatre. I just got more and more into it, and the next thing you know I was working in the summers."

Top Priority: "Well, my top priority is maintaining health, mental and physical health, and part of the mental thing is my marriage, keeping the key relationship in my life happy and healthy. But it’s kind of weird right now because my priority has to be this show. Luckily my husband Scott [Foley, whom she met three years ago while doing a guest spot on Felicity] is great about it. He totally understands and comes and hangs out with me on the set, and helps it make it easy for me to still make him number one."

First Pay check was spend on?: "I got my own apartment with a roommate and we decorated one piece at a time. For a month we sat on the floor and ate off a box because it was all we had. My roommate and I, her name is Corinna, are still so close because we shared that: It was incredibly simple, but it was ours and we loved it."

On having time to decorate or do craft: "I don’t really give a shit about the crafts or the decorating. I do love to cook and on Sundays I will usually make a big vat of something great to keep for the week."

On relaxation: "We go for long drives a lot, we go for walks with our dogs. I love to watch Martha Stewart. I love TiVO because I can watch From Martha’s Kitchen from the Cooking Network whenever I want to."

On Struggling: "When I first got to New York I lived on a futon on this woman’s kitchen floor for nine months. I paid her $400 a month while I was understudying a play on Broadway that I got $150 a week for. I got the flu and bronchitis because I didn’t have a warm coat in the middle of winter. I remember counting out pennies for the subway and walking from 85th street, where I lived, to 42nd where the theatre was. It wasn’t like I was on the Street or destitute, but she was nuts, and I moved out finally in the middle of the night because I got scared - I mean she followed me to auditions, she thought people were stalking her and nobody was."

On changing herself: "I would have a sense of direction! I’m devoid of a sense of direction. I even get lost in West Virginia, that is the sad thing. When I go home, Scott is the one showing me how to get around, in my hometown of 60,000 people, on the three roads."

About the next career move: "I hope Alias is as well received as it can be. The pilot itself is such a fine piece of work: I’m so proud of it and so excited to be a part of it. We set the bar kind of high for ourselves, and so if we can live up to that, and if people respond to it, I think that would be the best thing. Just to stay put, there is so much I can learn from these actors and writers, and so many languages, and my martial arts."

Martial Arts training for Alias: "Luckily, I was a ballet dancer, so I had that control. Although my friends would say, "You’re the biggest spaz in the world, you stumble into everything!" But if I decide to kick you next to your head, I will probably hit you next to your head and not take off your nose."

Favorite Piece of clothing: "My Nike running shoes. I’m a fan, I wear them at such inappropriate places, I wear them everywhere."

Biggest Indulgence: "Cheese and crackers - once I get started, I can get through a block of cheese."

Scariest Parts of Alias: "The emotions. It was never ending. I felt like every time I finished a scene and I could relax, two days later I knew an even bigger scene was coming up. I would say for days, "J.J., I`m so nervous about this scene with my Dad," and the next thing you know it would be the scene in the bathtub with my boyfriend, and then the scene where I had to change the answering machine. And then all of a sudden, I`m hanging 10 stories up by a wire, which you just barely see, but I had to sit there for a long time."

About West Virginia: "I`m all about growing up in West Virginia. It`s the most beautiful place in the world. It`s such an isolated community where you`re not affected by cities and trends. We`re lucky we have the Limited and Lane Bryant. I felt very protected and loved by the entire community and I still do. I still go home and I go to the men`s shop where I worked and I go to my church where I grew up and my friend`s parents are still like my parents. It`s the most important thing in my life that I grew up there."

On Martha: "I love Martha Stewart. I know she`s supposed to be mean, but I just love her, I have her on my TIVO. I just like watching her cook, I don`t know why. It`s just very soothing. It reminds me of my mom. It`s not the crafts. I`m not visual at all.
