Fans and critics love Laura, she always gives a great performance. Laura San Giacomo was born November 14, 1962 in West Orange, New Jersey and was raised in the nearby city of Denville. She went to Morris Knolls High School in Denville, where she got the acting bug, and had the lead in several school plays. Laura then got a Fine Arts degree, specializing in acting, at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. This petite (5`2") brunette beauty was a natural for movies, and her breakout film was her first-- "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" (1989), the movie won grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival; as for Laura, critics and fans alike loved her performance: she won the New Generation Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and received a Golden Globe nomination. Next, she was the scene-stealing Kit De Luca in "Pretty Woman" (1990) opposite Julia Roberts; the film won the People`s Choice Awards for Best Comedy and Best Film. On stage, Laura was in the off-Broadway productions: "Three Sisters"; "Italian American Reconciliation" and "Wrong Turn at Lungfish" (to explain the title-- the plays says evolution started with fish, then lungfish, then animals, then people... did we take a Wrong Turn at Lungfish? If we hadn`t, would we be Angels now?). In regional theatre Laura was in: "Tempest"; "Romeo and Juliet" and "Crimes of the Heart." Onscreen, Laura got a starring role in "Nina Takes a Lover" (1994), she gave another magnificent performance. Offscreen, Laura got married to Cameron Dye in 1990; they had a son, Mason, in 1996. Laura got divorced in 1998, and has since remarried, to Matt Adler. Having a child influenced Laura to make the transition to TV, she started in the sitcom "Just Shoot Me" in 1997; television gave her a more regular work schedule, and no more traveling (as movies required). In the TV series she plays Maya Gallo, which is Italian for Mayan Rooster... and her wonderful career is something to crow about.

I only pictured my age up to the millennium. I used to lie in bed and count on my fingers and listen to Simon and Garfunkel on my transistor radio and think that I was going to be this very modern woman when the millennium came. I thought I would be this self-possessed woman, that I would be confident, I would do things. And I would say I became that, except it doesn`t feel like that on the inside. But I know that is who I am.
I have a son, Mason, who is disabled-cerebral palsy-and he does not walk independently, sit independently or speak. He uses a talking computer. I started becoming an advocate for him when he was three years old. He was soon going to enter the school system. A lot of health care professionals that I work with-doctors, physical therapists and occupational therapists-told me that I should research inclusive education for him...that it would be very important for him to have typical peer role models. (They told me about) a wonderful program here in California called "The CHIME Institute" which is affiliated with CSUN (California State University, Northridge). They run a lab group for pre-school and kindergarten. And, they include two to three children with disabilities per classroom of 17 or 18 typical children. I was very fortunate that there was a space available for my son.
I didn`t want it to be the first thing that people knew about him. And so in interviews, I would talk about him like he was typical. You just leave out the details. I want to protect him and myself, and I didn`t want people feeling sorry for us. And that is a weird thing too, because there are moments when you dip into that. But we don`t sit home. We have things in our life that make it easy for us to be active. Adaptive chairs that we bring to restaurants, and all the restaurants know our chair and know where we need to sit.
I went to college in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Mellon University...studied acting there. Then I went to New York for about five years. I moved out here about 10 years ago.
I think in various times of my life-certainly when I was younger and I didn`t have as much going on-it was easier to be taken away a little bit. But, I don`t find that as much anymore.
