It was very strange. In a live sense you play for fans who are excited to see you. To be quite honest, I was on the toilet for a week. But when you step out on the stage, all of those nerves go away. I had to crack the audience, I wanted them to enjoy themselves.
I think the last album was a little self-indulgent and we lost the plot a little bit. I love that album, but it doesn`t sound like a Lisa Stansfield album. We got deep and I don`t think people got it. For this album we wanted to make the best one we could. The record company was brilliant - they gave us a lot of time, which is very unusual.
It happened so quickly, we didn`t have much of a chance to think about it. I never got a chance to realise, oh I`m really famous now, and everyone knows me. You know, there are expectations but you try not to think about that - I think it`s advantageous to be so busy. You don`t have time to think about that. Well, I haven`t done America like I want to do it. There are many categories that I fit into, so I have a wide audience. I have been successful in America.
